Ghost Orchid

When daylight fades, and the winds of Lal Hadaf grow still, the Ghost Orchid blooms. Its translucent pink petals emit a cold, faint glow, like dying embers scattered across the darkness.

 The Ghost Orchid is a bioluminescent parasitic plant found throughout Lal Hadaf. It thrives in places rich with death and decay, most commonly on old battlefields where countless bodies have been left to rot. The flower takes root in decaying flesh, drawing nutrients from the fallen and spreading rapidly across the dead.

What makes the Ghost Orchid truly feared, however, is its ability to attach itself to the living.

When a person comes into contact with the plant, thin tendrils burrow beneath the skin and slowly work their way toward the nervous system. As the orchid establishes itself, the victim falls into a dreamlike trance. Within this illusion, they relive their final moments, but twisted into something comforting: a glorious victory, a peaceful return home, or an escape from the horrors surrounding them.

The orchid offers no mercy. While the victim remains lost within the dream, the plant steadily consumes their body from within, feeding on them until death finally comes.

On moonless nights, battlefields covered in Ghost Orchids glow with thousands of pale lights swaying in the wind. These eerie landscapes are known as Ghost Meadows. From a distance, they appear beautiful, almost serene, but beneath the flowers lie the remains of the dead and dying, intertwined with the roots of the orchids.

Many legends surround the Ghost Meadows. Some claim the flowers are the spirits of fallen soldiers given form, while others believe they are a curse born from the violence soaked into the soil. Whatever their origin, learned travelers know to avoid their glow. Countless stories tell of wanderers who entered a Ghost Meadow at night, only to vanish among the flowers, never to return.

The Ghost Orchid has become one of the defining symbols of Lal Hadaf – a reminder that on this scorched land, even death offers no peace.
